Wa-gokoro Exhibition 2008
Joint exhibition held in the Watanabe Residence,
a magnificent old Japanese home in Miki Town, Kagawa.
The Watanabe family had a tradition of Japanese tea ceremony and the house has six tearooms, some as old as 280 years.
The late master of the house, Norihisa Watanabe,
used to invite leading political figures and intellectuals to his home for tea ceremony.
In this historic setting, I held a joint exhibition with Yucco from “Things”.
Our collaborative works included leather crafts, hand towels and T-shirts, carrying yōkai designs, as well as my latest paintings.
Mrs. Watanabe, who has performed tea ceremony for the emperor, served visitors green tea.
In the evenings, we used the surreal atmosphere of the lantern lit garden for a unique co-created performance:
I drew spontaneous kamishibai pictures in ink
while two collaborators read a story and provided sound effects.
